Abstract
Comets can be classified by their orbits as long-period and short-period comets, according to whether their periods are longer or shorter than two hundred years. The long-period comets have revolution times ranging from two hundred years to 107 y. The short-period comets are concentrated in a narrow interval; 60% have periods between 5 and 6.5 y.
