Abstract

Optimization of physical treatment planning implies depositing an adequate homogeneous dose to the target volume, minimizing the dose to the adjacent normal tissue and critical organs. To reach this goal a series of steps are to be followed, and MRI may contribute to some of them. Among others, these steps include the visualization of the tumour and surrounding organs, the definition of the target volume, the selection of the treatment portals, the calculation and evaluation of dose distribution and the verification of the planned treatment.
