Abstract
During the last few years connectionist models have been developed for most fields of cognitive science. The basic concepts of these models were discussed in detail by Rumelhart and McClelland (1986). There are also a lot of papers giving surveys of connectionist modelling (e. g. Feldman, Fanty amp; Goddard 1988, Kemke 1988, McClelland 1988 — to mention only some of the most actual ones). As McClelland (1988) argues, these models work best if a multilayer processing system is to be modelled, and if processing is interactive among these layers (p. 115). Both is true in models dealing with language production theories, as Bock (1982, 1987) suggested by elaborating theories of Fromkin (1971) and Garrett (1975, 1980).
