Zusammenfassung
Ösophagusvarizen sind Venen, die um ein Vielfaches der ursprünglichen Lichtung erweitert sind, in der Ösophaguswand geschlängelt verlaufen, deren Wand unregelmäßig verdünnt ist und die ein unterschiedliches Ausmaß fibröser Veränderungen im Bereich der Media und Elastika aufweisen. Sie entstehen bis auf wenige Ausnahmen durch einen dauerhaft erhöhten Gefäßinnendruck infolge einer portalen Hypertension und leiten Blut aus dem Splanchnikusgebiet an der Leber vorbei in die obere Hohlvene.
