Zusammenfassung
Patienten mit Stuhlinkontinenz werden an vielen Stellen therapeutisch betreut: beim Allgemeinarzt, in der internistischen oder proktologischen Praxis oder in der Spezialklinik. Entsprechend ihrer Ausstattung und Orientierung variiert demzufolge sowohl das diagnostische wie das therapeutische Repertoire erheblich. Allgemein jedoch überwog bislang die Auffassung, daß Inkontinenz ein Leiden sei, bei dem die konservativen therapeutischen Möglichkeiten beschränkt sind. Häufig wurden die Patienten damit vertröstet, daß sich ihre Symptome mit der Zeit vielleicht bessern würden, oder daß sie lernen müßten, mit ihnen zu leben.
