Zusammenfassung
Mehr noch als bei der Epidemiologie der Obstipation ist das Studium der Epidemiologie analer Inkontinenz dadurch erschwert, daß es sich hierbei eher um ein heterogenes Symptom als um ein klar definiertes Krankheitsbild handelt. In der neunten Revision der Internationalen Klassifikation der Krankheiten (ICD) taucht die anale Inkontinenz organischer Ursache als Code-Nummer 787.6 auf [14]. Sie wird dort im Sammeltopf derjenigen Symptome des Gastrointestinaltraktes aufgeführt (ICD-Code 787), die sich nirgendwo anders haben einordnen lassen. Die Enkopresis, das ist die Verunreinigung mit Stuhl bei Kindern aufgrund nicht organischer Ursache, hat in der Liste den separaten ICD-Code 307.7 erhalten. In der Umfrage des amerikanischen Nationalen Amtes für Gesundheitsstatistik (NCHS) unter Pflegeheimen und Krankenhäusern für chronisch Kranke wurde die anale Inkontinenz als Schwierigkeit definiert, die Darmentleerung zu kontrollieren [9, 10]. In der Umfrage von T. Thomas und Mitarbeiter galt anale Inkontinenz als unwillkürliche Entleerung oder Passage von Stuhl zu unangebrachter Zeit oder an unangebrachtem Ort zweimal oder öfter pro Monat [12].
