Therapeutic Interventions in Patients with Gallbladder Stones: The Internist’s View

Abstract

The past two decades have witnessed not only the advance of a number of nonsurgical treatments of gallstone disease but also a considerable increase in our knowledge about the natural history of gallstone disease. As a result, we must now ask the following questions: (a) for which patients with gallbladder stones are therapeutic interventions necessary, and (b) which therapeutic modalities can be recommended?
