GH ist ein einkettiges Polypeptid, das von den somatotropen Zellen des HVL gebildet, gespeichert und serzerniert wird. Es besteht eine enge Strukturverwandtschaft zum menschlichen Prolaktin und plazentaren Laktogen (HPL).
