Kurzfassung
Um den Einsatz eines Datenbanksystems für die Lösung eines gegebenen Anwendungsproblems sinnvoll möglich zu machen, muß gewählleistet sein, daß Datenstrukturen und bewährte Operationen einfach und leistungsfähig auf das Datenbanksystem abgebildet werden können. Dies setzt ein für diese Anwendungen geeignetes Angebot an Datentypen und Operationen voraus. In diesem Beitrag soll dieser Problemkreis diskutiert werden und auf den Aspekt der automatischen Generierung der dazu nötigen Typkonvertierungsfunktionen eingegangen werden.
