Abstract

An unusual feature of the 1985 Conference1 was a session entitled “How brains may work,” organized and edited by E. Başar and T. Melnechuk, in which several scientists were invited to speculate or summarize their personal view of the principles of operations of this most complex system known. For the 1987 Conference some of the same people and some new people were invited to do the same thing, or to state how their views may have changed in the past few years, or to make a statement about directions and needs in research on how brains work.
