Sunflower (Helianthus spp.): Anther Culture and Field Studies on Haploids

Abstract

The genus Helianthus (Compositeae family) contains 60 annual and perennial species originating from America. Two among them have been improved for nutritional use, H tuberosus L., for its succulent tubers, and H. annuus L., the cultivated sunflower, the oil from whose seed, and protein-rich oil-cakes are utilized (Table 1).
