Altered Regulation of Receptor-Associated Tyrosine Kinases in Human Tumors

  • Conference paper
Molecular Basis of Membrane-Associated Diseases

Abstract

The discovery of a link between known oncogenes and growth factors, their receptors and their signalling mechanisms has renewed hopes that the basic features of cancerous growth can be understood. Such an understanding could provide novel means of diagnosing and treating cancer. It is now established that several of the so-called activated oncogenes are altered versions of genes encoding proteins involved in the intercellular and intracellular signalling pathways (for reviews, see Bishop 1983; Hunter 1984; James and Bradshow 1984; Ben-Neriah and Baltimore 1986).
