Soziale Normalität und organische Pathologie bei Patienten mit Epilepsie: eine Langzeitperspektive

Zusammenfassung

Die vorliegende Arbeit thematisiert die soziale Normalität chronisch Epilepsiekran-ker. In einer soziologischen Perspektive, die lebensweltliche Normalität als rollenförmig verfaßt sieht, werden Daten einer fallorientierten, qualitativen Studie analysiert, um die soziale Normalität, welche den Patienten über Zeit möglich ist, zu beschreiben. Es zeigt sich, daß strategisches soziales Handeln ebenso wie gute Anfallskontrolle maßgeblich zu der erfreulichen sozialen Situation der Patienten beitragen.

Summary

The social normality of chronically ill patients is discussed. Using a sociological perspective on normality based on role performances in everyday settings, data from a qualitative case study on patients with epilepsy are analysed. The normality which these patients achieve over the course of 4 years is described and related to the course of their disease during this time. It is argued that both seizure control and strategic social action contribute to the favourable social situation of most patients.
