Abstract
As usually happens, the possibilities of an apparatus devised for the solution of a sufficiently weighty problem turn out to be used in part only. For example, we have seen that the method of sandwiches, which was applied to Engel Lie algebras in the first place, has exhibited its viability in terms of Lie algebras with strong degeneracy. Constructions using sandwiches have occurred comparatively recently in the works of other authors. With time, it is almost inevitable that perfection of the original apparatus occurs, and that useful new facets emerge. A large part of the present chapter is devoted to polishing such facets of the method of sandwiches.
