There have been numerous reports about human embryos in early developmental stages, among which those of Streeter and co-workers published in Contributions to Embryology, Carnegie Institution of Washington, have clarified the issue greatly. Recently O’Rahilly and Müller made a comprehensive survey of human embryos younger than 8 weeks, mainly based on the Carnegie collections.
