Scattering of X-Ray and Neutrons in Crystals with Dislocations

  • Chapter
Book cover X-Ray and Neutron Diffraction in Nonideal Crystals

Abstract

When the concentrations and strengths of the bounded defects discussed in Chaps. 3 and 4 are not too large they produce diffuse scattering and attenuation of the intensities of the regular reflections but not their broadening. They can be regarded as the defects of the first class in terms of the classification of Sect. 1.5. The long defects, that is, defects of the second class, produce broadening of the X-ray or neutron lines (or spots) even when their concentration is low.
