Zusammenfassung
Die Entwicklung von Estelle wurde ebenso wie die von LOTOS in der ISO initiiert. Die Notwendigkeit formaler Spezifikationssprachen ergab sich aus der Komplexität der Protokollspezifikationen, die internationale Standards werden sollen. Es wurde erkannt, daß zur Entwicklung zuverlässiger Protokolle für verteilte Systeme formale Methoden sehr hilfreich sein können.
