Abstract

In vertebrate cells, the adenylate cyclase is regulated by hormones or neurotransmitters. Adenylate cyclase of eucaryotic organisms is a membrane-bound multi-component enzyme. The complex contains hormone receptor (R), guanine nucleotide binding proteins (Gs and Gi.) and the catalytic unit (C). Recently the catalyst, a calmodulin-insensitive enzyme from myocardium and a calmodulin-sensitive enzyme from brain has been purified to homogeneity by forskolin-Sepharose affinity chromatography (Pfeuffer etal., 1985a; Pfeuffer etal. 1985b; Smi gel, 1986).
