Police Research and Its Significance for Policing and Criminal Policy

Abstract

Until the beginning of the 1970s, criminological research in the Federal Republic of Germany focused primarily on enhancing knowledge regarding the causes and manifestations of crime. Research was chiefly conducted by universities and private scientific institutes. The results obtained augmented scientific theories and literature. In addition, they provided information for criminal policy, particularly in the area of legislation.
