Digital Image Processing

Conference paper

The quality of photographs, movies, video films, and fingerprints used in police work sometimes makes it impossible to recognize essential details. The reasons for such inferior quality include: overexposure or underexposure; pictures taken out of focus; smear effects produced by fast-moving objects or camera movement combined with a low shutter speed; grain structure or random noise produced by enlarging small details; and awkward camera movement when attempting both to trace the target of interest and to keep it in the middle of the screen.
