Abstract
The Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) has for some time had a handwriting identification unit to assist it with identifying criminals. The handwriting samples collected for this purpose are presently being studied manually by means of the MALLY system, a classification system developed by the unit This is a formidable task in terms of Mai visual comparison. The FISH system (Forensic Information System for Handwriting) was developed to facilitate handling of the constantly growing collection. FISH is used for all of the tasks that accrue in the handwriting identification unit The quality of processing is dependent on high speed and an improved selection of handwriting features.
