Abstract

Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is one of the most valuable analytical techniques for the separation and identification of low-molecular weight fragments such as are found in product mixtures after the application of chemical degradation methods to lignin (Chap. 6) and in spent pulping liquors (Gierer and Petterson 1977, Gierer and Lindeberg 1980) and bleaching effluents (Lindström and Nordin 1976, Lindström and Österberg 1980, 1984).
