Abstract
The monitoring of intracranial pressure (ICP) is associated with a high risk of meningitis (Mayhall et al. 1984). We performed a prospective epidemiologic study in 118 consecutive patients to assess the infection rate during ICP recording and to compare the safety of a cheap device assembled in our intensive care unit with the more expensive monitoring equipment currently available.
