An Electron Spin Resonance Study of some Silanone Radical Anions

Abstract

A method has been developed for generating silanone radical anions from simple precursors. The t-butoxyl radical will abstract a hydrogen atom from a hydroxysilane (1) to give the hydroxysilyl radical (2). Treatment of (1) with t-butoxide solutions yields the siloxide (3) from which hydrogen atom abstraction gives the desired silanone radical anion (4).
