Abstract
Today it seems fair to say that the nuclear Hartree-Fock (HF) theory has come out of age. By this we mean that it is no longer just a set of equations providing a conceptual connection between the basic ingredients of a microscopic theory of nuclear structure: the participating nucleons and their two-body interaction, and the macroscopic collective properties of nuclei. HF has become a tool that one can put to test on any nucleus for almost any kind of collective motion. In some cases it even appears that by renouncing to any sort of parametrization, however clever and physically motivated it may seem, HF has freed himself from constraints which are restricting the predictive power of more phenomenological models. The region of light strontiums which provides a remarkable variety of collective nuclear phenomenon appeared to us as one of the natural places where we should put to work the recently acquired potentialities of the HF method
