Structure and Organization of Big Business in Japan and its Trends Towards Internationalization

Abstract

Confucianism, Buddhism, and Shintoism are the underlaying base of philosophy, moral, and human behavior in Japan. Consequently the well-being of the group, a personal freedom in the harmonious group, and the unison of nature and men are prevailing principles of the Japanese society. In the specific compression of Zen in buddhism labour is one of the most significant characteristics; labour as an individual duty but labour also for the benefit of the entire society. Consequently the fruitful operation of a company serves ultimately the very existence of the cosmos including all men. The social value of the output of the enterprises and not abstract objectives like a maximization of gains are their ideal. This is expressed in the word ”mushotoku”, freely translated as the ”spirit of non-profit”.
