Abstract
Intact chloroplasts are defined as those with an intact envelope as revealed by the ability to carry out light-dependent CO2 fixation ; ribonuclease and protease resistant RNA and protein synthesis ; starch, fatty acids and amino acids synthesis ; and to show low rates of ferricyanide reduction which are greatly increased by exposure to hypotonic conditions (for a review see Douce and Joyard, 1979).
