Overview of Electron Microscopy Studies of the So-Called “Strong Metal-Support Interaction” (SMSI)

  • Chapter
Chemistry and Physics of Solid Surfaces VII

Part of the book series: Springer Series in ((SSSUR,volume 10))

Abstract

Toaster and coworkers [8.1,2] discovered that when the Group VIH noble metals supported on oxides from Groups IIA–IIB were heated in hydrogen at temperatures in excess of 775 K the systems exhibited unusual chemisorption properties. They attributed the suppression of H2 and CO chemisorption capacity to the existence of a strong metal-support interaction (SMSI).
