Endoscopic Ultrasonography of Bile Duct Malignancy and the Preoperative Assessment of Local Resectability

  • Thian Lok Tio

Abstract

Conventional ultrasonography is accurate in detecting dilatation of the biliary tree and in localizing the site of proximal ductular abnormality [1–4]. Lesions of the distal common bile duct cannot be adequately visualized by conventional ultrasonography because of interfering bowel gas and/or obesity. Moreover, delineation of the extent of the primary bile duct lesion may be difficult.
