Zusammenfassung

Die Methodenprobleme und die Wertediskussion in der amerikansichen Philosophie, v. a. aber in der angewandten Ethik, von der die Bioethik ein Teil ist, unterscheiden sich von der kontinentaleuropäischen Tradition durch 2 Voraussetzungen:

  1. 1)

    die Einsicht in das Scheitern der Aufklärungshoffnung nach einer einheitlichen humanistischen Wertewelt, die die dogmatisch-theologische ablösen sollte;

  2. 2)

    durch den Versuch, konsensorientiert und fallbezogen dennoch zu vertretbaren Regeln moralischen Handelns innerhalb einer pluralistischen Gesellschaft zu kommen.
