On fevers

  • Giovanni Alfonso Borelli

I will consider fevers. These appear to our senses and we unfortunately experience them. However, their causes and mechanism escape human sagacity so far, despite much study and research. The most learned of the physicians do not hesitate sincerely to recognize that they have not understood the nature of fevers. Thus, if in such a difficult and mysterious matter I do not bring anything new, the erudite Readers will not make me more responsible of this defect than all the others. But they will appreciate that I discussed and presented what is taught commonly, following new lines and according to other principles.
