Abstract

The data about the contraceptive effectiveness of the diaphragm vary widely within the medical literature. The combination of a diaphragm with a spermicide increases the effectiveness. Therefore most publications deal with this combination. Contraceptive effectiveness with the use of the diaphragm (in combination with a spermicide) depends greatly on the method of data collection and on the chosen population. Socioeconomic as well as educational factors influence the application and handling of this contraceptive method.
