Abstract

The years around 1960 were, without any doubt, the most important years in the history of contraception. These years brought us the discovery of the pill and the rediscovery of the IUD. These two methods of contraception — both extremely reliable — have changed our world profoundly. Their availability may not have caused social changes, but has at least allowed social changes to occur. They have changed the sexual behavior of our generation and will probably have a similar influence on that of the generations to come.
