Zusammenfassung

Die Vielzahl der Faktoren, die ein akutes Atemnotsyndrom des Erwachsenen auslösen können, und die Komplexität der beteiligten Pathomechanismen erschweren die Suche nach einem medikamentösen Therapieansatz, der über die supportive Therapie hinausgreift. An 1. Stelle muß daher die Behandlung der Grunderkrankung, z.B. die Behebung eines Schockzustandes, stehen. Ist dies nicht möglich, so kann potentiell ein Eingriff in den Ablauf der zellulären und humoralen Pathomechanismen ein weiteres Fortschreiten der Erkrankung verhindern. Die Manifestationen des Syndroms, wie pulmonale Hypertension und Lungenödem, sind ebenfalls einer Pharmakotherapie zugänglich. Über die Beeinflußbarkeit der Reparaturphase der Erkrankung im Sinne einer Vorbeugung und Vorbereitung der Wiederherstellung des geschädigten Organs ist bisher wenig bekannt.
