Abstract

The Tropical Medicine Unit was established in January 1983 at the University Hospital, Barcelona. Malaria was soon one of the main problems presented by patients attending the unit. The parasitic and epidemiological data for 98 cases seen at the hospital over a 5-year period are presented in Tables 1 and 2. Five cases came from South America, 75 from Africa, and 18 from India and Pakistan.
