Abstract

Estuaries can be defined in many ways. A generally accepted and biologically useful definition of an estuary is “a semi-enclosed and coastal body of water which has a free connection with the open sea and within which sea water is measurably diluted with fresh water derived from land drainage” (Cameron and Pritchard, 1963).
