Abstract
Hydrolases or hydrolytic enzymes catalyze the breakdown of substrates (e.g. esters, glycosides, and peptides) using water:
For the purposes of this account it is sufficient to note that the plasma membrane and lysosomes are prominent locations for hydrolytic enzymes.
