Abstract

Hehuanpi, Cortex Albiziae, is the dry stem bark of Albizia julibrissin Durazz. (Fabaceae) collected in summer or fall. The Chinese Pharmacopoeia requires for this official herbal medicine a qualitative determination of the saponin content by a foam test and by hemolytic activity on rabbit erythrocytes in physiological saline. The stem bark of A. julibrissin is used as a sedative and for treatment of trauma.
