Abstract
Three items from Curcuma plants are officially listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia:
-
Yujin, Radix Curcumae, is the dry tubers of Curcuma aromatica Salisb., C. kwangsiensis S. Lee et C. F. Liang, C. longa L., or C. zedoaria Rosc. (Zingibe-raeeae) collected in winter when the aerial part of the plant has withered. It is used as a choleretic, analgesic, and sedative and in the treatment of hepatitis, menstrual disorders and epilepsy.
-
Jianghuang, Rhizoma Curcumae longae, is the dry rhizome of C. longa collected in winter. It is used as an analgesic in the treatment of menstrual disorders, rheumatism, and traumatic diseases.
-
Ezhu, Rhizoma Zedoariae, is the dry rhizome of C. zedoaria, C. aromatica, or C. kwangsiensis collected in winter. It is used as an analgesic and digestive and also for treatment of cervical cancer.
