The Signs and Causes of Virulent Gonorrhoea
The former is ancient and arose first in antiquity: but the true disease whose signs we now discuss spared our ancestors to afflict our generation. And it is called gonorrhoea, a disgusting and continuous seminal effusion from furtive sexual congress, and its flow is unfelt. The discharge is pale and white in colour, its odour is very foetid, the penis is taut and urinating brings pain that is fierce and sharp. This trickle through the penis excavates an ulcer: and, if suppressed, the poison tunnels through the perineum and matter pours out that was at first confined within. What engenders this malodorous state is a malign poison in the genital parts, dissolving the heat and strength of those vessels where the sperm is enclosed.
