Abstract

If the catarrh rapidly affects the throat and suffocates, open a vein without delay for delay is usually dangerous: and then give a strong enema to reduce the fierceness of the humour. And, to relieve the breathing, for drink give aqua vitae with sugar, honeyed squill, betony water, thyme, hyssop and cassia infusion. Cup the neck with a small flame. If this is not effective, purge as in asthma: and, whatever be the cause, the symptoms may be so severe as to bring us to our last brief hours.
