Abstract

Dihydrogenation of the natural ergot alkaloids brings about important changes in the effects exerted on the cardiovascular system. Vasoconstrictor activity and interference with blood pressure control mechanisms are attenuated, whereas antagonism of pressor responses to injected catecholamines is enhanced.
