Trace amount of copper ion catalyst induces many exotic phenomena in the chemistry of the elements in group VI A. Simple and complex periodic oscillationsas well as multistability have been observed in the oxidation of SCN- by H2O3, in the oxidation of S2O 3 2- by H2O2, in the oxidation of S2O 3 2- by S2O 8 2- and in the reaction between C10 2 - and S2-. Some preliminary mechanistic suggestions are offered to explain these behaviours.
