Zusammenfassung
Bekanntlich sind in den letzten Jahren Wert- und Moralfragen bei der Behandlung und Fürsorge geistig behinderter Patienten ein Gegenstand beträchtlicher und hitziger Kontroversen geworden. Dieser Stand der Dinge ist, wie der Philosoph Mclntire darlegt, z. T. auf die Auflösung des moralischen Konsens und der traditionallen Autorität in unserer Gesellschaft und auf das Festhalten an den verschiedensten moralischen Positionen, die ganz unterschiedlichen historischen Traditionen und Zusammenhängen entstammen, zurückzuführen. Manche dieser Konflikte (wie etwa die aus den Problemkreisen der Abtreibung bzw. der Sterbehilfe) sind an dieser Stelle wohl nicht zu lösen — insofern „unvereinbare Prämissen aufeinanderstoßen“.1
