Influence of Mezlocillin Administration to Pregnant Mice on the Immune System of Their Offspring

The Influence of Antibiotics on the Host-Parasite Relationship III

Abstract

Effects of mezlocillin on the function of the immune system of mice have been demonstrated in previous studies [2, 3, 6, 7]. Experiments performed in vivo revealed that mezlocillin given systemically or orally to Balb/c mice caused a significant depression of the delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction as well as of IgM and IgG responses. This was accompanied by a decrease in the proliferative activity of lymphocytes. Similar treatment with mezlocillin given repeatedly after grafting of murine transplantable tumor (sarcoma L-1) caused a statistically significant prolongation of Balb/c mice survival and reduction of tumor size [2, 3].
