The Ichthyosis Follicularis, Atrichia, and Photophobia (IFAP) Syndrome

  • Chapter
The Ichthyoses

Abstract

At the end of the past century the designation “ichthyosis follicularis” was quite popular and was used as an umbrella term for a variety of skin diseases such as keratosis pilaris, Darier’s disease, pityriasis rubra pilaris, and ichthyosis vulgaris. Therefore, this term has fallen into miscredit. There is, however, at least one entity which may be regarded as true follicular ichthyosis: The “ichthyosis follicularis, atrichia, and photophobia (IFAP) syndrome,” first described by MacLeod in 1909 [6].
