Abstract
The venous anatomy of the diaphysis of long bones is still a matter of some dispute. Some workers believe that the venous pathways are separate and distinct from the arterial network (Brookes 1971), others state that the veins accompany the arteries (Steinbach et al. 1957; Lopez-Curto et al. 1980). This may be due in part to the fact that the venous drainage of bone is very difficult to study. The veins are only secondarily demonstrated by the two perfusion techniques in common usage, arteriography and retrograde venous perfusion (Brookes 1971).
