Abstract

Recently, there has been considerable interest in studying the adsorption of rare gases or simple molecules on the (001) surface of MgO [1,2]. The principal motivation of many experimental studies is the possibility of observing the effects of substrate geometry on structural and thermodynamic properties of the adlayers. There are at least two important effects to study.
