Abstract

First of all, as I am the first chairman to take the floor, I wish to congratulate Dr. Benno Hess and his colleagues on behalf of all the participants for the choice of this very nice place, the excellent organization, and the cordiality of the welcome. So, this colloquium will just begin entering the general section devoted to basic research in neurosciences and it will start with Dr. Numa’s presentation. His work will illustrate, in a sense, what can be regarded as the most molecular-oriented part of the colloquium since it will be dealing with the structural features of receptors and ionic channels, as deduced from pure recombinant DNA work, a result which, as you know, constitutes a remarkable achievement.
