Abstract

The formation of a coherent array of twins is studied for a tetragonal to orthorhombic displacive transition. This structure is stabilized by an interface strain, coupling the twin band and the parent phase. The interface restoring forces for twin boundary oscillations result in unusually low frequencies and a limiting ~ (wavevector)1/2 dispersion.
